At ViaStone, we are fully committed to developing and maintaining an environment that enhances a balanced ecology and fosters a transition toward sustainability. We recognized we all have an impact on the environment, but through systems thinking and behavioral change, our environment can be sustained for future generations.

Our path to sustainability outlines a set of feasible ambitions and tangible initiatives that are substantiated. It should be noted that sustainability is advanced through research, analysis, and experience gained over time. To that end, we are committed to continuous improvement in how we produce our products, how our products are used, and how our products are handled at the end of its life cycle.


STEP 1: Reduce

Our products are self-evident in realizing the primary goal to reduce and depart from the continual reliant on the world's forests in making paper. It extended further to remove water consumption and bleaching requirements. Together, our production processes reduce the combined impacts of deforestation, water, energy, and chemical usage, as well as air, water, and solid waste pollution across the entire production system.

In the next phase, we will focus on integrating cleaner alternative energy in our production processes. The ambition, here, is to eventually actualize 100% of our electricity consumption through renewable energy sources in our production facilities.


STEP 2: Relocate

Our production technology has few geographical restrictions and can be implemented in nearly all geographical regions. This benefit removes the limitation to be more strategic in transferring and relocating the production system closer to the source of raw materials, source of consumption, or other criterias. The production processes offer three significant incentives to develop local production capabilities:

To reduce the environmental impact from transportation.
To carry forward our initiative to replace virgin raw materials sources with reclaimed or recycled sources.
To provide for the recycling capabilities to divert our products from landfills.

STEP 3: Reuse

Limestone, or calcium carbonate, is widely used in many industries. Many industries consume calcium carbonate in their products while others rely on it in their manufacturing processes. Where it is used in processing, the calcium carbonate becomes a by-product and disposed. Here, we can work with such companies to divert from landfills and to become our sources of calcium carbonate instead. Our ambition is to replace the virgin sources of calcium carbonate and to reduce the reliance and impact of mining.

The same is true for the synthetic resin used as our bonding agent. It is too valuable to be used once and discarded. We want to be among other innovative companies committing to extending its function and usefulness.


STEP 4: Recycle

The implementation of recycling capabilities for ViaStone paper alternative will complete the vision created by the founders. The durability of our paper alternative makes for better recycling due to the raw materials enduring properties. By harnessing it's stable properties, we can realize more recycling cycles. It is not a farfetched notion to consider a ton of ViaStone products consumed today could very well be the same ton that has gone through numerous recycling cycles and still be in use ten years from now. Furthermore, our recycling method is less selective in the materials it can recycle. This translates to less going to landfills, less energy and labor to sorting, and less demand on raw materials sources.
